Bearsted Woodland Trust (BWT) has been selected for a Green Flag Community Award for 2021, representing an eleventh year in a row it has received the coveted accolade.
BWT is one of only five organisations in the South East to be recognised for its volunteer community engagement under the scheme, which is celebrating 25 years as the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
The Green Flag Community Award is particularly apt after a year in which the popular green space has welcomed a record number of visitors, said the charity’s Management Committee Chair, John Wale.
‘After these strange times of lockdown and other restrictions and with unprecedented visitor numbers in the past year, we are delighted that our Green Flag Community Award status has been re-affirmed,’ he said.
‘This accolade reflects the huge contribution of our many Volunteers and the thoughtful involvement of our Trustees during 2021. To have gained the Award every year since 2011 is a remarkable achievement.’
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
