The turkey oak on the south side of Moore Meadow (believed to be hundreds of years old) was felled by hurricane Gonzalo on the afternoon of 21st October 2014. Fortunately no-one was hurt and the damage to the fence and hedge has been repaired. Volunteers soon cleared the lighter debris and tree surgery was done to make the area safe. The fallen tree provides a good habitat for wildlife, so has been left as a reminder of its past glory.
In 2015 the BWT Management Committee decided to commission sculpture in the tree trunk in memory of founder treasurer, Bernard Head.
